Indigenous knee preservation implant launched in Hyderabad
The implant procedure was successfully performed by Dr Raghuveer Reddy, senior Joint Preservation & Sports Injury surgeon, on a 28-year-old doctor suffering from cartilage damage and knee malalignment, at Medicover Hospitals

Hyderabad: An indigenously developed High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) implant has been successfully used in a young patient at Medicover Hospitals, Financial District, Hyderabad, offering a promising Made-in-India solution for patients who can benefit from preserving their natural knee.
The procedure was performed by Dr Raghuveer Reddy, Senior Joint Preservation and Sports Injury Surgeon, who has over 25 years of experience and is also one of the principal designers of the indigenous HTO implant developed by Sironix. The implant is expected to reduce dependence on imported implant systems and make advanced joint preservation solutions more affordable for Indian patients.
The implant was used in a 28-year-old doctor suffering from cartilage damage and knee malalignment. He underwent High Tibial Osteotomy combined with Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI) at Medicover Hospitals, Financial District, and is recovering well.
Disclosing the path-breaking procedure, Dr Raghuveer Reddy said, “Not every painful knee needs replacement. Joint replacement is an excellent treatment for advanced arthritis. However, in appropriately selected patients below 55 years with early to moderate arthritis, active individuals, early diagnosis and the right intervention can help preserve the patient’s natural knee and delay the need for joint replacement.”
He said knee damage is not restricted to older people. Obesity, bow-legged deformity (abnormal knee alignment), sports injuries with cartilage damage, meniscal injuries and ligament tears can lead to early deterioration of the knee even among younger individuals.
High Tibial Osteotomy is a joint preservation procedure in which the upper part of the tibia, or shin bone, is precisely realigned to redistribute body weight away from the damaged portion of the knee towards healthier cartilage. This helps reduce stress on the damaged area, improve function and preserve the natural knee.
Dr Raghuveer Reddy, Senior Consultant, Department of Orthopaedics, Medicover Hospitals, Dr Sharath Reddy, Director, Medicover Hospitals, Dr Swami Swaroop, Head, Medicover Hospitals, Financial District, and Prof GVS Murthy, former president of the Telangana Orthopaedic Surgeons Society, were present.
