Jagtial: Beneficiaries of the Indiramma housing scheme staged a protest at Nakkalapeta in Dharmapuri mandal on Monday after their names were excluded from the final beneficiary list.

They gathered at the gram panchayat office, questioning public representatives and officials over the denial of houses. Of the 484 applicants from the village, 60 names were shortlisted in the first phase.

However, only 41 beneficiaries were handed over housing proceedings by SC Development Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar during a programme held in Dharmapuri on June 14.

Angered by the exclusion, 19 shortlisted applicants, along with several other eligible residents, staged a protest.

Speaking at the protest, the demonstrators alleged that houses were allotted to individuals recommended by Congress leaders and party workers, while genuine beneficiaries were sidelined.

Several applicants said they had demolished their old, dilapidated houses in anticipation of new constructions, following assurances from officials that houses would be sanctioned if they possessed house site land.

They demanded that the State government sanction houses to all genuine beneficiaries without political bias.
