Hyderabad: The State government’s flagship programme Indiramma Indlu and the constitution of committees for identification of beneficiaries has triggered differences among Congress leaders in many constituencies. The government had issued GOMS 33 on October 11 for the constitution of Indiramma Indlu committees. All Collectors were directed to initiate measures for constituting these committees by October 12.

In each committee, there will be a Sarpanch or Panchayat Special Officer (Panchayat level) and Councillor or Corporator (ward level) as Chairman. There will be two women from SHGs, three local persons, including one member from BC and one from SC or ST community and Panchayat Secretary (Panchayat) and Ward Officer (Ward).

However, the recommendation of members to these committees has triggered differences within the Congress. While BRS turncoat MLAs insist on the presence of their followers in the committees, those who have with the Congress all these years are complaining about lack of recognition of their services to the party. This apart, in a few constituencies, Congress leaders are at loggerheads over recommendation of members to the committees. For instance, Mahabubabad Congress leaders are unhappy with MLA Murali Naik’s recommendations to the committee and are insisting that senior leaders in the party should be given priority. They have also threatened to lodge complaints with the high command in New Delhi.

Similarly, Congress Mahila Mandal leader Nirmala Reddy is alleging that leaders were suggesting the members for Bayyaram panchayat Indiramma committees without her consent. After having toiled hard for the party’s success in the elections, true leaders were not being recognized, she complained.
The dissidence of six MLAs from erstwhile Warangal against Forest Minister Konda Surekha’s interference in the district affairs is also posing a new challenge to the State leadership. Many MLAs have been complaining about her interference in affairs of different constituencies affairs in which she does not have any role.

Similarly, there is growing unrest over the domination by Gaddam family members in party affairs in erstwhile Adilabad. Congress MLA from Mancherial Prem Sagar Rao had made his intentions before the State leadership during the district review meetings. He openly said he was aspiring for a berth in the ensuing Cabinet expansion and anyone trying to prevent him would have to face dire consequences.

In Nirmal too, a section of Congress leaders are not keen on former Minister Indrakaran Reddy’s interference in the party affairs. It is learnt that senior leader Sri Hari Rao has briefed the party leadership in this regard.
