Hyderabad: Dr. Siddhesh Kamat, Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, and recipient of the Infosys Prize 2024 in Life Sciences, will be delivering a talk on ‘Lysophosphatidylserine: An emerging signaling lipid with implications in human disease’ at the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB), on July 22 at 4 pm.

Lipids are fatty compounds essential to several key functions in the human body such as energy storage, hormone synthesis, and vitamin absorption. While common dietary lipids like cholesterol are widely known, lesser abundant yet biologically significant signaling lipids remain underexplored by the public, a press release said.

In the lecture, Dr. Kamat, will be discussing one such enigmatic signaling lipid- lysophosphatidylserine and his lab’s groundbreaking work toward understanding its role in human biology. The talk will shed light on the lipid’s involvement in brain and immune system-related disorders and why it is now emerging as an important biomedical focus area.
