Hyderabad: The 216-feet tall Statue of Equality – Sri Ramanuja at Muchintala is second tallest statue in a sitting position in a world. But Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy had different plans before commencing works on the project.
Initially, the plan was to carve sculpture of Sri Ramanuja on a mountain in Tamil Nadu just like Pharaohs of Egypt but such hills were not available, he said.
“In 2014, we thought this is not a better idea and decided to set up the statue in Tamil Nadu but even after two years, things did not take off. Eventually, we finalized Muchintala,” said Chinna Jeeyar Swamy.

When the proposal was announced, My Home Group of Companies Chairman Jupally Rameshwar Rao donated land and the project works commenced, he said, adding Telangana government also extended the required support.
During 2003, an incident took place in Tirumala. Thousand pillar mandapam was demolished and there was an agitation. Devotees from across the world wrote 1100 crores of Om Namo Venkateshaya names and all these books had to be preserved and this place (Muchintala) was selected. A special tower was constructed here, he said.
In this project everything is related to digit 9. The statue’s height is 216 feet, there are 108 Divya Deshas, the Padma peetham on which the deity is placed is 27 feet, the Tridandam in the hands of Sri Ramanuja is 27 feet etc, he explained.
“Sri Ramanuja got mantra from his guru after he approached him 18 times, walking about 100 miles,” said Chinna Jeeyar Swamy.
On the arrangements for the unveiling ceremony, he said 120 yagashalas were set up with 1035 Homa Gundams. About 1.5 lakh kgs of cow ghee would be used for performing the homams and all the quantity was gathered from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and other States. Arrangements were being made and many were in the final stages, he added.
