Intense heat, humidity, severe thunderstorms grip Telangana

High humidity and soaring temperatures followed by gusty storms mark this summer season

Hyderabad: The ongoing summer season continues to be a combination of intense heat, exacerbated by humidity ranging from 42 per cent and 50 per cent, and interspersed by brief but severe spells of thunderstorms that are often accompanied by gusty winds.

For the past several days in Hyderabad, mornings have brought a mix of intense heat and high humidity, causing people to profusely sweat and struggle. However, by evening almost every day, the skies are covered by ominous looking clouds as thunderstorms develop, triggering spells of thundershowers in various locations.

The present trend of the weather is expected to continue for some more days, as Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad on Sunday issued a yellow alert (medium intensity) of thunderstorms and gusty winds at multiple locations for at least two-more days.

The districts for which the yellow alert has been issued for 48-hours include Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal.

While there will be thunderstorms, the IMD-Hyderabad forecast also indicated that maximum temperatures in districts will hover between 41 degree Celsius and 44 degree Celsius.

The temperatures, however, at the State’s capital and surrounding districts including Medchal-Malkajgiri, Medak and Rangareddy districts, however, will temperatures ranging from 38 degree Celsius and 40 degree Celsius.

The districts where temperatures will hover between 41 degree Celsius and 44 degree Celsius include Adilabad, Jagtial, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla and Wanaparthy.
