Hyderabad: A development that has the potential to trigger yet another Covid crisis, the Israeli Health Ministry on Thursday has reported an entirely new strain of coronavirus, a combination of BA1 and BA 2 strains of Omicron, which has never been reported elsewhere in world.
Although more details on the virulence and transmissibility of the new strain reported by Israeli Health Ministry is yet to be known, the development has raised genuine fears among public health experts over the possibility of a fresh surge of Covid wave in the coming months in multiple countries.
Countries like China, Hong Kong, South Korea, UK and other parts of Europe are already struggling to contain the BA 2 variant of the Omicron and its sub-lineage BA 2.2.
The health ministry of Israel said that “In a flooring inspection that took place in recent days, 2 cases of verified strains of a combined variety of varieties BA1 (Omicron) and BA2 were discovered in the State of Israel. The two cases of the combined strain, which have been discovered so far, suffered from mild symptoms of fever, headaches and muscle ailments, and did not require a special medical response. The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the results of the flooring, and will continue to update as needed.”
The Health Ministry of Israel said “This strain is not yet known in the world, and the verifications were discovered thanks to the PCR test performed at Ben Gurion Airport at the entrance to the State of Israel. The two cases of the combined strain, which have been discovered so far, suffered from mild symptoms of fever, headaches and muscle ailments, and did not require a special medical response.”
