Kothagudem: In an attempt to ensure immediate medical care for students studying in tribal residential educational institutions Bhadrachalam ITDA supplied medical kits to the institutions and hostels.
As many institutions and hostels are remotely located, wardens and principals sometimes find it difficult to take the students to hospitals. Hence medical kits have been provided to the tribal educational so that the students could get immediate treatment, informed the ITDO Project Officer B Rahu.
Medical kits worth Rs 13 lakh have been purchased and handed over to 115 tribal ashram schools, hostels, post-matric and pre-matric hostels in Khammam and Kothagudem districts under the supervision of additional DM&HO Dr Saidulu and deputy DM&HO Dr Chaitanya
The kits are provided to 13 ashram schools and 10 hostels in Yellandu division, 18 ashram schools and 12 hostels in Dammapet division, 12 ashram schools, 10 hostels and 4 pre-matric hostels in Bhadrachalam division and 30 hostels in ashram schools in Khammam district.
An ANM at Tribal Welfare Department Ashram School, Aswaraopet, Bhukya Mangamma noted that if any of the 400 boys studying in the school fell ill, they had to travel to the PHC for treatment. But now with the provision of medical kits medical check-up and treatment could be done, she said.
There are nearly 28, 000 tribal students studying in 60 ashram schools, 33 post-matric hostels and 22 pre-matric hostels in erstwhile Khammam district. Along with education, care is being taken to protect their health, the Project Officer said.
