Nalgonda: Former Minister G Jagadish Reddy condemned the murder of BRS leader Chintalapati Madhu in Suryapet and alleged that Congress activists were involved in the killing. He also expressed suspicion over the role of some police officials in the incident.
Jagadish Reddy, along with several BRS leaders, paid tributes to Madhu’s mortal remains and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family. He said the BRS had earlier lost party sarpanch Onteddu Venkanna in a brutal murder allegedly carried out by Congress activists. “Just as the party stood by Venkanna’s family, we will continue to support Madhu’s family as well,” he said.
Addressing the media on Saturday, Jagadish Reddy alleged that there were strong doubts over police complicity in the murder. He claimed that incidents of lawlessness had increased after the Congress came to power and alleged that police stations were functioning under the influence of Congress leaders.
He further alleged that BRS leaders in Suryapet were being summoned to police stations, humiliated in front of Congress activists and subjected to harassment. According to him, Congress leaders were instigating attacks and then filing cases in advance to shield themselves.
Referring to the murder of Onteddu Venkanna, Jagadish Reddy said the trial in that case was still underway and witnesses, including Madhu, had been facing intimidation. He alleged that Madhu was lured away on false pretences before being murdered.
The former minister also criticised the sudden replacement of the Public Prosecutor in the case and alleged that it was done to weaken the prosecution. “We will not spare any official who attempts to derail the investigation. The accused must be punished strictly,” he said.
