Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy launched a sharp attack on the Congress government for surrendering Telangana’s rightful share in river waters to Andhra Pradesh under the influence of its Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He said Chandrababu Naidu was indirectly ruling Telangana and controlling the State’s affairs, while A Revanth Reddy and his Ministers were busy looting the State and covering up their failures instead of addressing the looming drinking water crisis.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Jagadish Reddy said the recent replacement of the CRPF battalion from Mulugu district unit at Nagarjuna Sagar project with a unit from Visakhapatnam, had effectively handed over control of the key project to Andhra Pradesh. He reminded that CRPF forces were never allowed to take control of the irrigation projects during former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule.
Demanding restoration of the 2023 status quo at the Nagarjuna Sagar project, he warned of widespread farmer agitations if the decision was not reversed. “Unless the Congress government takes immediate measures, Hyderabad itself may face a drinking water crisis,” he said.
The former Minister stated that the Congress had made false accusations against Chandrashekhar Rao over Krishna River water. “The Congress claimed Chandrashekhar Rao mortgaged the State’s rightful share in river waters to Andhra Pradesh for personal gain. But it is the Congress government which has remained a silent spectator as Central forces took control of Nagarjuna Sagar project. The Congress did not even protest against the Centre’s control over the irrigation projects in the State,” he reminded.
He stated that though the Congress government passed a resolution in the Assembly opposing the Centre’s control on various irrigation projects on Krishna River, it failed to safeguard Telangana’s interests. “The Congress did not mend its ways. It has been facilitating fund flow to Delhi as well as water flow to Andhra Pradesh. Why is this Congress government scared of Chandrababu Naidu to question him over the water diversion?” he asked.
Jagadish Reddy said farmers were already facing irrigation water shortage in erstwhile Nalgonda district and blamed Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy over failure to ensure adequate water supply in his own Assembly constituency. “The Congress has emptied Kaleshwaram project and is pushing Telangana’s farmers into misery,” he charged.
