Hyderabad: BRS senior leader and former Minister G Jagadish Reddy ridiculed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for promising to construct the proposed Bharat Future City with world-class amenities. Pointing out that in the last 22 months of Congress rule, the Revanth Reddy government had not laid even a single road, let alone constructed a new city, he said the exit of L&T from Hyderabad Metro Rail and the foundation for the non-existing Future City were all part of a larger conspiracy to turn Telangana into a hub of scams.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Jagadish Reddy said the Revanth Reddy government pressurised L&T to exit the Hyderabad Metro project, facilitating a profit of Rs 1,000 crore for select players while burdening people with a Rs 15,000 crore debt. He stated that a conspiracy was being hatched to hand over assets worth Rs 35,000 crore, including 280 acres of prime land, to Adani Group and MEIL, making the Metro Rail inaccessible to common citizens.
The former Minister also took a jibe at Revanth Reddy’s Future City plans, stating that a city without houses, people or settlements was no future city. The Chief Minister was laying foundations for roads and planning Metro Rail to regions where there were no residents while ignoring Metro expansion and road development in existing habitations within Hyderabad. “The Chief Minister is following in the footsteps of his mentor and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, with promises to develop an imaginary city. Both the mentor and the disciple have misplaced priorities,” he remarked.
He reminded that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao consulted the Cabinet, experts and stakeholders to plan Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion to cater to the needs of the growing urban population for the next 50 years. However, Revanth Reddy cancelled it immediately after coming to power, only to lay foundations in places without residents.
Jagadish Reddy charged that the Congress government had lost credibility even within its own ranks, pointing to Ministers and MLAs publicly contradicting the Chief Minister on issues ranging from RRR project deadlines to liquor brand changes. “Is this a government or a circus?” he asked, pointing out that Congress leaders themselves were exposing the government’s failures with MLAs writing to the World Bank for flood relief works, alleging corruption in government departments and mishandling of BC reservations.
