Jagtial: MLC T Jeevan Reddy seems to be facing a tough situation in the Congress party. From a situation where he lost or won, but still remained a godfather figure for the party in the erstwhile Karimangar district for nearly four decades, he is now facing a stiff challenge after the entry of Jagtial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar into the Congress.
Jeevan Reddy, who was already unhappy with the joining of the legislator, is facing new challenges in the form of murders of his followers one after another. While his close aide Maru Ganga Reddy was murdered on October 22, another follower Naresh from Katikenapalli of Dharmaram was killed by his opponent on June 2. Though there were different reasons for the murders, Jeevan Reddy is unable to digest the loss of his followers.
He had contested in the 2023 assembly elections from Jagtial and was defeated by Sanjay Kumar. He also contested in the 2024 parliament elections from Nizamabad segment and lost again. He is continuing as an MLC. With the defection of Sanjay Kumar to the Congress, Jeevan Reddy was disappointed that it happened without his knowledge and raised his voice against the party’s decision. The party leadership had then deployed IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu to appease the senior leader. Sridhar Babu, who visited the residence of Jeevan Reddy, had convinced the senior leader to calm down.
Now, Jeevan Reddy is back raising dissent after the murder of his close aide Ganga Reddy. Staging a dharna in protest against the murder of his follower in Jagtial on October 22, Jeevan Reddy made serious comments against his own party. According to the police, old rivalry and land disputes were the reasons for the murder of Ganga Reddy. However, Jeevan Reddy, is now blaming the party leadership stating that defection of Sanjay Kumar and his aides had led to the murder.
Party sources also said that rumours were being spread among party circles that Jeevan Reddy may not get a ticket in the next MLC elections. The party is said to be considering fielding young leaders. With this, the internal bickering in the party has intensified in Jagtial.
