Jailbird’s freedom run ends in an hour in Hyderabad
He managed to break from the 'shackles' of law when he was taken to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for treatment, only to be nabbed again very soon
Hyderabad: That was Thursday’s adventure in short for Mohammed Ghouse, who was recently sent to remand in the Chanchalguda Central Prison after being caught on charges of theft. He managed to break from the ‘shackles’ of law when he was taken to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for treatment, only to be nabbed again very soon.
A resident of Zehra Nagar in Banjara Hills, Ghouse was arrested by the SR Nagar police in a theft case and remanded in judicial custody recently. On Wednesday night, he complained of health issues and was rushed to OGH by the prison authorities, after which he was admitted at the hospital.
However, Ghouse managed to hoodwink the escort police constables around 5 am and sneaked out of the hospital. He soon reached Road No 4 in Banjara Hills, from where he contacted a relative, asking for some clothes and money so that he could move out of the city.
However, the police, who were already on the job of tracking him with an eye on his relatives in case he contacted them, got wind of his plans, and as he was waiting in Banjara Hills, caught up with him.
According to the police, the escort policemen who Ghouse had managed to trick found that he had gone missing from the ward where he was admitted, and immediately alerted the Afzalgunj police, who sent out a message to all police stations in the city.
“We got information that Ghouse, who was previously arrested by us in theft cases, had escaped from OGH and was waiting at Banjara Hills Road No 4. A plainclothes team went to the spot and apprehended him. He was handed over to the Afzalgunj police where one more case has now been booked against him,” Mohd Hafeezuddin, Detective Inspector, Banjara Hills, said, adding that Ghouse’s freedom run had lasted barely an hour.
He was produced before court and sent back to the central prison.
