Hyderabad: Better civic amenities are in store for those living in the various areas falling under the Jalpally municipality jurisdiction, located at a distance of 4 km from Chandrayangutta, on the southern outskirts of the city.
To encompass the outskirts with the city’s growth and ensure uniform development in these areas, the State government has recently allocated a budget of Rs 10 crore for taking up various developmental activities under Jalpally municipality.
Using the allocated budget, the municipality officials have begun taking up various civic works like drainage and stormwater lines to ease the problems being faced by the residents here for a long time.
Four villages — Kothapet, Pahadishareef, Jalpally and Balapur fall under the Jalpally municipality and given the rocky terrain here, huge budgetary requirements were sought for taking up sewerage line works. The work contractors on several instances brought to the notice of the authorities that it was difficult to cut the rocks to pave way for laying the water and drainage pipelines as the budget required was huge.
“On the representation of P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Minister for Education, the State government has allocated additional budget. The works are being taken up on war footing in different localities and our aim is to complete them at the earliest,” said G P Kumar, Commissioner, Jalpally Municipality.
The works were being taken up in Shaheennagar, Sadathnagar, Wadi-e Mustafa and other areas. “For years these areas were neglected due to paucity of funds. Now works are taken up on urgent basis to provide relief to the citizens and ensure proper growth of these areas,” said Abdullah Sadi, Chairman, Jalpally Municipality.
Around one lakh people stay in different areas of Jalpally Municipality where garbage-littered streets and open drains have been the norm for the last several years. However, the allocation of the amount would to some extent help in reducing their woes, the local residents feel.
The municipality is also taking up beautification of the main roads with avenue plantation and also identified several areas were tree plantation is being taken up as part of ‘Haritha Haram’ project.
