Warangal: Task Force police in association with Jangaon police arrested a gang of three smugglers involved in ganja smuggling and seized 126 kg of cannabis worth Rs 12.60 lakh, a car and three cell phones on Friday. The arrested were identified as Guguloth Sudhakar of Gubbeditadi thanda in Rayaparthi mandal of Warangal Rural district, Guguloth Suresh of Ramdan thanda, Yellanda village of Wardhannapet mandal in Warangal Rural district and Titholia Dinesh of Hyderabad.
Disclosing the details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Tarun Joshi said the main accused in the case, Sudhakar, used to run a curry point in Hyderabad and came into contact with another accused, Dinesh, involved in ganja smuggling in Hyderabad. “Sudhakar on returning to his hometown due to lockdown started a car rental service but suffered losses as he had no business due to lockdown. He then planned to smuggle ganja from Narsipatnam in Andhra Pradesh and entered into an agreement with Dinesh and Suresh, whom he met in his village,” the CP said.
As part of the agreement, the accused smuggled ganja several times from Narsipatnam to Hyderabad in his car. He bought 126 kg of cannabis on June 29, packed it in two kg packets, stored it in his car and reached Jangaon.
On receiving a tip-off, the Task Force police and Jangaon SI Ravi Kumar with his staff had nabbed the accused after they found cannabis in their car during vehicle inspections. “During interrogation, the accused confessed to their crime,” Joshi said and appreciated Task Force ACP, Pratap Kumar, Inspector G Madhu, Jangaon CI Balaji Varaprasad, SI Ravi Kumar, Task Force head constable Samalingam, constables Srinivas, Raju, Mir Mohammad and others for nabbing smugglers’ gang.
