Hyderabad: The Jawaharnagar police on Wednesday arrested a woman, who, along with her husband, had murdered her mother ten months ago and buried the body in the house, as the victim had opposed their marriage.

The arrested are Monti Kumar Singh (22), a resident of Quthbullapur and his wife, aged 17 years.

According to the police, the victim Anju Dasari Ramiah (40) stayed with her children in Jawaharnagar. Monti was into friendship with the younger daughter of the woman, and Anju opposed the relationship on caste grounds.

In 2024, Anju caught her daughter along with Monti in their house, and a POCSO case was booked against the man and he was arrested. Subsequently, he was released from jail, and again in January 2025, Monti was arrested for sexually assaulting the girl and remanded.

“As Anju was preventing them from marrying, Monti and the girl planned to kill Anju. On 12 May 2025, Monti went to the house of the girl and hid in a room waiting for the woman to return from work. When she finally arrived at getting an opportunity, Monti and the daughter of the victim, Anju, stabbed her to death and buried the body in the house,” said DCP Malkajgiri, Ch Sridhar.

Afterwards, they cleaned the house and informed the relatives that Anju was missing. A family member on suspicion approached the police in October, stating that Anju was missing, and the police had registered a case.

The police, however, got a tip-off that Mohit and his wife had murdered Anju and buried the body in the house. Based on the leads the police took, Mohit was taken into custody, and on interrogation, he admitted to having killed Anju.

“The body remains were removed after digging the earth, and a postmortem was conducted in the presence of the revenue official. Mohit and his wife are arrested and produced before the court concerned,” said Ch Sridhar.
