Hyderabad: The State Government has decided to sanction a Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University (JNTU) for southern Telangana in erstwhile Mahabubnagar district.

The government had decided to set up the college next year and classes would also commence from next academic year.

The credit for government taking this decision to sanction JNTU to erstwhile Mahabubnagar goes to Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, Telangana Information Technology Association president Sandeep Makthala said on Sunday.

He met the Minister and thanked him for his role in government sanctioning JNTU for southern Telangana and said this aid in development of Makthal constituency.

TITA would do its bit extending technical training for students pursuing education in the college, he said.

In Telangana, JNTU was set up in Hyderabad, Kondagattu (Jagityal), Manthani (Karimnagar) and Sultanpur (Medak). This will be first JNTU to be set up in southern Telangana.

Sandeep Makthala recalled the efforts of S Niranjan Reddy, who was Telangana Planning Commission vice president in 2018 and stressed on the need to set up a government degree college in Makthal.

“Setting JNTU in erstwhile Mahabubnagar will benefit students a lot,” said S Niranjan Reddy. Apart from students in Wanaparthy, this institute would also help the students from Atmakur and Amarchintha mandals, said Sandeep Makthala.
