Hyderabad: A team of veterinarians from Nehru Zoological Park rescued a female and a male jungle cat from a poultry farm in Veluguralla Thanda, Kadthal Mandal, Rangareddy district. The two cats were rescued on Saturday and Sunday.
According to poultry farmer Kishan and village sarpanch, Pandu Naik, these cats were raiding the poultry farm in the nights and predating the poultry. Being aware of the forest laws, the farmers set up a trap cage and caught the cats safely.
The two cats are in good health and have been kept in observation at the zoo and will be released later as per the orders of the Chief Wildlife Warden.
Meanwhile, the zoo also conducted a webinar on Malabar Pied Hornbill, wherein a presentation was given by Pooja Powar, a wildlife biologist, as the concluding part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. About 60 wildlife experts, NGOs, veterinarians and biologists were among the participants of the webinar.
