Hanamkonda: Stating that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was striving for the protection of forests and wildlife, West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar said he would take up the issue of expansion of Kakatiya zoo with the Chief Minister at the earliest and strive for its development.

The Government Whip, who visited the zoo and inspected the facilities arranged for the animals on Thursday, said that the zoo would be made into a medium zoo with the addition of 50 more acres after consulting the Chief Minister.

“Hanamkonda Zoo Park has become the second-largest zoo after Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad in Telangana, thanks to the collective efforts of the authorities,” he said adding that the zoo houses 400 species of wild animals and birds.

The MLA also appealed to the people in India and abroad to come forward to adopt the animals under the Animal Adoption Scheme introduced by the Forest Department, and appreciated NRI Pulla Subhash, the Managing Director of the PV Group of Industries, for adopting a bear at the zoo. Subash’s father Dr Pulla Srinivas handed over Rs 30,000 cheque for the animal adoption for six months to the zoo authorities on the occasion. Pulla Subash, who hails from Warangal, is now living in the USA.
