Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Saturday said that the State government’s Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak scheme was a boon for poor women. The Minister distributed Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques worth Rs 1.43 crore to beneficiaries here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, he said the Telangana government introduced these schemes to help perform marriages of women from poor families. No government in the past had implemented such a scheme, he said.
Poor women were happy with the implementation of the scheme. While receiving cheques, women blessed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for introducing the scheme. Later, the Minister distributed scooters and battery tricycles to physically challenged persons. Cultural council chairman and Manakondur MLA Rasamai Balkishan, ZP chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya, Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar, Collector RV Karnan and others participated in the programme.
