Kamareddy: Tension prevailed in Chandur mandal on Sunday after groups loyal to Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and former MLA Enugu Ravinder Reddy clashed at a party programme, raising slogans against each other.
The scuffle broke out in the presence of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister D Anasuya during her visit to participate in the “Janahita Padayatra”.
Trouble began when Ravinder Reddy’s supporters alleged that Pocharam had prevented him from attending the programme. Raising slogans such as “Idemi Rajyam, Dongala Rajyam”, they protested at the venue in full public view.
An irate Pocharam reportedly asked Ravinder Reddy’s followers to leave the venue, leading to a heated argument and an eventual physical altercation. Police intervened and struggled to bring the situation under control.
Pocharam, who defected from BRS to Congress, has been at odds with former Congress MLA Ravinder Reddy for several months now. Sunday’s incident was a culmination of simmering tensions between the two leaders.
Following the clash, Minister Anasuya left the venue. Later, while addressing party workers in Argul, she appealed to all leaders to set aside personal rivalries and work unitedly for the party, especially with the local body elections approaching.
