Karimnagar: At least 100 students of Social Welfare Girls Residential School, Choppadandi, took ill after having lunch on Friday. They complained of stomach-ache and started vomiting following food poisoning.
The school staff shifted the students to a local government hospital, and subsequently, 35 of the 100 students were shifted to Karimnagar district headquarters government hospital for better treatment.
According to the students, they were served cabbage, egg, dal and sambar for lunch. Immediately after lunch, they developed symptoms of food poisoning. The school authorities suspect there was a problem with the cabbage dish.
On coming to know about the incident, BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar contacted District Collector RV Karnan and enquired about the incident. He instructed the Collector to take all possible measures to provide the best treatment to students.
Kamalakar, in a statement, said all the students were recovering and there were no serious issues. Parents need not worry about the health condition of their wards since all the students are doing well, he said.
Karimnagar MP and BJP state president, Bandi Sanjay Kumar also spoke with the Collector and district headquarters hospital superintendent over phone and enquired about the condition of the students.
