Karimnagar: Workers of the CPI staged a protest at Kaman Chowk here on Tuesday demanding the State and Central governments reduce the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. They also burnt the effigy of the Union government. Participating in the protest, CPI district secretary Ponaganti Kedari warned that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao have to pay a huge price if they fail to reduce the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.

While the Central government was enhancing prices of oil products, the State government was imposing taxes on them. Both the governments were indulging in mutual recrimination by imposing a burden on poor and weaker sections. Though the price of crude oil in the international market has been reduced, the price of petrol and diesel has been enhanced in the country. The government should explain to the public the reasons behind the hike in fuel prices, he demanded.

The Union government washed off its hands by reducing a little amount in fuel prices, he said and demanded the Centre to reduce the total amount hiked in the recent past.
