Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar assured to provide double bedroom houses to the kin of the four women, who died when a speeding car ploughed through makeshift shops near Kaman chowk, Karimnagar town on Sunday morning. Expressing deep concern over the death of the poor women, the Minister promised to provide assistance to the kin of the deceased families.
Informing that each deceased family was provided Rs 20,000 for funeral expenditure on Sunday, he said that the district administration has decided to provide double bedroom houses to four victim families in Padmanagar housing colony, which is under progress. In this regard, a file is being sent to the government to get approval from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
On the other hand, the government has decided to provide treatment to three injured women including a seven-year-old girl by shifting them to Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences. Each injured person would be provided Rs 50,000 ex gratia. The Minister along with Collector RV Karnan and Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana conducted a meeting with local corporators and officials to discuss the steps to be taken to put an end to road accidents in the town at the collectorate conference hall here on Monday.
Later, speaking to reporters, Kamalakar made it clear that there was no failure of the government as well as officials with regard to the road accident. Though municipal officials vacated the victims from the spot on a number of occasions, they again started to work at the spot on Sunday. Though the community people were allocated sheds behind the bus stand, they were not showing interest to shift to a new location. Warning to act seriously on footpath occupations in the town, the Minister informed to make Karimnagar a footpath encroachment-free town within one week.
For this purpose, a committee led by Additional Collector Garima Agarwal has been formed to remove footpath encroachments. Municipal commissioner, police, road and buildings and electricity officials would be members in the committee. Informing that the police commissioner has also constituted a separate committee, the minister said that Circle Inspectors would be found responsible if footpath encroachments were taken place in their police station’s limits.
Talking about the selling of vegetables and other commodities on roads, he said that 99.9 percent of the people were facing troubles. Though Rythu Bazars were constructed at Indiranagar and weekly market areas, vendors were still sitting on roads.
Hereafter, there was no question of allowing vendors to run their businesses in red zones of the town, he made it clear and sought cooperation from the public. They were planning to set up a weekly market at a particular place, he informed. CP V Satyanarayana informed to remove footpath encroachments by deploying two DSP level officers. Informing that all footpath encroachments in red zones would be cleared within one week, CP said that it was his responsibility not to repeat such kind of road accident in the future.
When asked about the lack of traffic signals, Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao informed that they got approval to set up traffic signals in 42 places and the works would be completed in the coming one month period. Islands would also be established in some places to control the speed of vehicles, he informed.
