Nizamabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha on Monday hit out at the Congress government in Telangana over the increase in crimes against women. She said the State government was neglecting women’s safety leading to a 10 per cent increase in the crime rate against women. She noted that a rape case occurred every third hour and a kidnapping case every fifth hour in the State.
Speaking to mediapersons at Nizamabad on Monday, Kavitha said despite having “SHE Teams” initiated by the previous BRS government to prevent crimes against women, the Congress government failed to ensure its effective functioning. She demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who handles the Home department, conduct a special review meeting on women’s safety and take urgent measures to control crime against women.
The BRS MLC criticised the Congress for failing to deliver on key promises, including the complete farm loan waiver and monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 for women. “The Congress government, which came to power through false assurances, has opened the doors to mismanagement. Farmers, women, and labourers are bearing the brunt of this inefficiency,” she stated.
She observed that the State government was conspiring to scrap the Rythu Bharosa financial assistance to farmers and already initiated measures to scale down the number of beneficiaries. She called for immediate loan waivers for over 1.7 lakh farmers across Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. She demanded transparency through a white paper on the controversial land resurvey under the Telangana Bhu Bharathi Act.
Kavitha launched a scathing attack on the Congress and the BJP for abandoning the development of erstwhile Nizamabad district and failing to fulfill their promises to the people. “There is absolutely no talk of development and fulfilment of promises by the Congress government in Nizamabad,” she remarked.
Pointing to the absence of a police commissioner for six months and stalled projects like SRSP Phase-2, the BRS MLC lamented the lack of leadership in the district. “Not a single rupee has been allocated to municipalities or Telangana University in last one year, and sand mining continues unchecked,” she added.
She stated that people were vexed up with both the Congress and the BJP who turned a blind eye to the region’s needs.
