Hyderabad: Demanding centre-sponsored interventions such as the long awaited minimum support price for turmeric, BRS MLC K Kavitha on Saturday criticised the union Home Minister Amit Shah’s upcoming visit to Nizamabad on June 29, 2025, to inaugurate the National Turmeric Board headquarters. She pointed out that it would be the third such inauguration for the same project.
Speaking at an event where students and youth from Kukatpally, Serilingampally, Patancheru, and Yakutpura constituencies joined Telangana Jagruthi, Kavitha demanded statutory status for the Turmeric Board to ensure its effective functionality. She accused the BJP of using the Turmeric Board as a political gimmick, pointing out that despite previous inaugurations, no funds were allocated in the recent union Budget for its operations.
She urged Shah to announce a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs. 15,000 per quintal during his visit to Nizamabad, emphasizing the need for concrete action to empower farmers. “If the NDA government is sincere, it should grant statutory status to the Turmeric Board and ensure that it benefits the farmers, rather than holding repeated inaugurations,” she said, suggesting that Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri might not have informed Shah about prior launches.
The BRS MLC also took aim at the ruling Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of failing to address the issues of students, women, and other sections of society. She criticized Congress leaders for making derogatory remarks against women, specifically calling out MLA Jagga Reddy and questioning whether his comments reflected the party’s stance. Kavitha reminded the Congress that its survival during tough times was due to the contributions of women leaders like Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
She demanded clarity from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud on this issue. She also pressed for the passage of a pending bill on increasing BC reservations, currently stalled with the central government.
In a separate meeting, CPI Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala, Sandosh Kumar, met Kavitha at her Banjara Hills residence and expressed the CPI’s cultural wing, Yuva Kalavahini, readiness to collaborate with Telangana Jagruthi. Kumar stated that both organizations would work together across various regions to promote cultural and social initiatives. Kavitha warmly welcomed the CPI MP during the courtesy visit.
Kavitha also met with representatives of the Village Revenue Assistants (VRA) Joint Action Committee, who raised concerns about job opportunities for VRA heirs. She demanded that the state government provide employment to the heirs of 3,797 VRAs above 61 years of age.
