Karimnagar: MLC K Kavitha has urged the Central government to confer the Padma Shri award on renowned Karimnagar-based surgeon Dr Bhoom Reddy, who recently passed away due to age-related health issues.
She appealed to Union Minister of State for Home and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar to support the demand and take proactive steps to ensure the late doctor receives the prestigious national honour.
The BRS leader visited the bereaved family in Karimnagar on Friday and offered her condolences. Speaking on the occasion, she lauded Dr Bhoom Reddy’s lifetime of service to society and the medical field.
“Dr Bhoom Reddy was not only a pioneer in surgical procedures in Karimnagar but also took part in several social service activities alongside former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru,” she said.
Kavitha also pointed out that Dr Bhoom Reddy was among the few doctors who treated Nehru at AIIMS, Delhi. “He is one of the most deserving individuals for the Padma Shri, and this recognition is long overdue,” she said.
Reiterating her full support, she urged Bandi Sanjay to pursue the matter with the Union government and to make sure that Dr Bhoom Reddy is honoured posthumously for his contributions.
