Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao extended greetings to the tribals in the State on the occasion of World Tribal Day on Monday.

Describing the Adivasis as children of the forest and nature, and symbols of purity of heart and affection in society, the Chief Minister said the State government was implementing numerous programmes for development and welfare of tribals. He assured that the government would soon provide a permanent solution to the Podu lands issue apart from conducting survey of forest lands.

In a statement issued here, Chandrashekhar Rao said the government had taken strong measures for development of infrastructure like education, health, drinking water and electricity in tribal hamlets. The State government created special medical facilities to provide health care. Unlike earlier, the government could contain widespread deaths of tribals due to viral fevers. He stated that the tribals were made partners in self-governance of Telangana State, by converting the tribal hamlets and habitations into gram panchayats. The ST Sub-Plan was also being implemented effectively.

Through Mission Bhagiratha, the Chief Minister said the government was able to provide purified drinking water to every household in the remote tribal hamlets and prevented the spread of water-borne diseases. Further, world-class education is being provided to tribal children through tribal welfare residential schools with all modern facilities. In addition to the IAS Study Circle, sports colleges have been set up specifically for tribals. Free power upto 101 units is also being supplied to tribal households through three-phase connections .

Chandrashekhar Rao explained that the Adivasis have a unique culture which was intertwined with the Indian way of life and the State government was constructing Kumram Bheem Bhavan in Banjara Hills of Hyderabad, to showcase the Telangana tribal culture to the world. The building was expected to be completed and would soon be ready for inauguration. He promised to install the statue of Kumram Bheem on Tank Bund. He said the government had set up museums in different parts of the State to conserve and protect respective tribal cultures.

The Chief Minister pointed out the government was organising the Samakka-Saralamma Jatara as well as Nagoba and Sewalal Maharaj birth anniversary celebrations officially in a grand manner. Further, the Thupakulagudem barrage was named after Sammakka as a token of respect. Apart from providing nutritious food to tribal children under ‘Giri Poshan’, the government is also marketing the forest produce collected by the tribals under the brand of ‘Giri’ to ensure remunerative price. Measures are also being taken to promote entrepreneurship among tribals under the Chief Minister’s ST Entrepreneurship scheme.
