Hyderabad:BRS president and former Chief Minister K ChandrashekharRao paid rich tributes to social reformer SavitribaiPhule on the occasion of her birth anniversary on Friday. He lauded her as a trailblazer who broke societal barriers and dedicated her life to women’s education and the upliftment of marginalised communities.
In a statement, ChandrashekharRao remembered the sacrifices of SavitribaiPhule and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, crediting their social reforms for shaping India’s progress. He held them responsible for securing rights of the oppressed and bring qualitative changes to their lives, along with the changing times.
The BRS chief said the previous BRS government initiated numerous measures, to involve the Dalit-Bahujan communities and ensure their socio, economic, political and cultural progress over the past decade. “Telangana made strides and transformed as a progressive model for other States, due to initiatives inspired by Phule’s vision,” he said.
ChandrashekharRao pointed out the previous BRSgovernment’s focus on education, particularly for marginalised communities, with the establishment of specialised residential welfare schools, intermediate, and degree colleges to provide world-class education to Telangana’s youth especially women. “The ambitions of the Phule couple are reflected in the foundations laid by the BRS government,” he asserted.
He also mentioned numerous schemes aimed at women’s empowerment, noting their role in ensuring sustainable development. He called for continuing efforts to uplift marginalised groups and promote education as a tribute to reformers like SavitribaiPhule.
