Hyderabad: BRS supremo and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao paid homage to Dr BR Ambedkar on his death anniversary, commemorating his lifelong fight against discrimination and his contributions as the architect of the Constitution of India. He recalled the BRS government’s efforts to realise Ambedkar’s vision of an egalitarian society.

In a statement, Chandrashekhar Rao lauded Ambedkar’s foresight in drafting a Constitution that ensured equal rights for marginalised communities on par with the privileged sections on economic, socio, political and cultural fronts. He remembered the contribution of Ambedkar to the nation, especially in the post-Independence era and his fight for equality.

He pointed out that Article 3 in the Constitution, introduced by Ambedkar, was a key factor that facilitated the creation of Telangana.

To honour Ambedkar’s legacy, the former Chief Minister recalled the several initiatives by the previous Telangana government, including the installation of the world’s tallest 125 feet statue of Ambedkar in Hyderabad and the naming of the State Secretariat after him.

Chandrashekhar Rao also pointed to the Dalit Bandhu scheme, launched by the previous BRS government, as a transformative programme aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of Dalits in the State.

He said the programme has yielded significant results in empowering marginalised groups. He called for continued efforts to build a society free of discrimination and to pay the greatest tribute to Ambedkar’s legacy.
