Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday appealed to the media not to sensationalise Covid-related news, that was creating a scare among the people. “This is not a good practice,” the Chief Minister said, and urged news channels to broadcast reports on awareness programmes that highlight the precautions to be taken to fight Coronavirus.

“As a responsibile Chief Minister, I appeal to the media houses not to create unnecessary panic. They should behave responsibly while reporting news related to the pandemic since these kind of reports have an adverse impact on the people causing unnecessary panic,” he said, during his visit to Warangal district.

He added that due to fear psychosis, some rich people hoarded oxygen cylinders, injections and other medicines despite not having a requirement for them. “This created scarcity in the market and the needy patients were deprived of these medicines,” he said, and urged the people too not to panic since Coronavirus can be avoided by following simple precautions like wearing mask and maintaining physical distancing. He pointed out that though he had contracted the virus, he recovered after consuming paracetomol and anti-biotic tablets prescribed by doctors.

Chandrashekhar Rao also condemnded the attacks on doctors in case of death of a patient. He pointed out that all patients undergoing treatment may not survive and doctors cannot be blamed for every death. “All of us are mortals. The doctors and other medical staff are working hard to save our lives and not many of us know the effort they put in. It is wrong on the part of people to attack them,” he said.

He lauded the services of doctors and the staff at government hospitals and urged the media as well as people not to defame them unnecessarily. He pointed out that they treat as many patients as possible despite the work burden, with limited facilities available for them. “I salute the government doctors and medical staff who are working tirelessly and serving the needy despite the heavy work load. I also salute the ANMs and other healthcare workers who participated in fever survey conducted by the State government, despite them facing the risk of contracting Covid-19,” he added.
