Police and Agriculture department officials are conducting search operations at a seed and fertilizer shop in Siddipet on Monday
Siddipet: With the monsoon expected to set in within a fortnight, District Collector P Venkatrami Reddy on Monday instructed the officials to keep a strict vigil on seed sales in Siddipet district to check sale spurious seeds.
Addressing the district task force committee meeting here, the Collector instructed the agriculture and police department officials to conduct random checks in seed dealer shops across the district.
Warning spurious seed sellers that they will slap the PD Act against people involved in sale of spurious seed in the district, Reddy asked the agriculture department officials to ensure that farmers buy only quality seeds without any issues. He also observed that the sowing of spurious seed will push farmers into debt traps since they do not get the desired yield.
Immediately after the meeting, the Police and agriculture department officials conducted checks at seed and fertilizer shops across Siddipet district simultaneously.
Commissioner of Police D Joel Davis said that the police will constantly monitor sale of seeds for the next couple of months till the sowing operation is completed.
