Khammam: Commissioner of Police (CP) Vishnu S Warrier informed that Operation Smile-VIII was a success as around 58 child labourers have been rescued in the district. In a statement here he said police, women and child welfare department, child line and labour department officials made a concerted effort to rescue the children who went missing and working as labourers away from their parents.
He said the annual operation was conducted for a month from January 1 to 31. The details of children were collected in missing cases registered under various police stations and compared with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Networks and Systems (CCTNS) database to track them. As part of Operation Smile, FIRs were registered in 35 cases. Authorities were advised to work hard to ensure punishment in registered cases, CP added.
