Khammam: District Collector VP Gautham appealed to the podu farmers to make use of the Podu Action Plan launched by the State government to address the farmers’ issues. He visited Rajab Ali Nagar in Earlapudi gram panchayat in Raghunathapalem mandal in the district on Tuesday and attended a grama sabha.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the government intends to find a permanent solution to podu farmers’ issues. All the podu farmers have to be united to make use of the opportunity. Explaining to the podu farmers about the procedures to be followed in submitting claims, he said after grama sabha’s decision, the claims would be forwarded to divisional and district level committees.

Gautham informed them that in the past title deeds for podu lands have been given in two phases. In order to do justice to those who could not get the title deeds and to prevent further encroachments of forests, the government launched the Podu Action Plan.

Forest Right Committees and village officials have to educate the podu farmers about the process of submitting claims and should ensure that every eligible podu farmer would submit his claim, he suggested. Later in the day, the Collector reviewed the progress of ongoing development works under the limits of Khammam Municipal Corporation limits. He told the officials to speed up the pending works such as overhead tank works of Mission Bhagiratha, Gollapadu channel modernisation and others.
