Khammam: Residents whose houses at Vinoba Navodaya Colony in the Velugumatla area were demolished on Tuesday came down heavily on the Indian National Congress government for rendering them homeless.
On Wednesday, many residents visited the colony to salvage belongings they could not carry during the massive demolition operation carried out with a huge police force. Speaking to the media, they warned that if justice was not done, they would politically oppose the Congress party in Khammam. They alleged that Ministers Thummala Nageswar Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy were responsible for the demolition.
The residents warned that they would protest strongly if the Ministers approached them for votes. A woman alleged that she was not allowed to take her belongings, while another claimed that municipal staff took away her gold and silver ornaments. One woman said that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka should feel ashamed for failing to intervene, as his native village was close to Velugumatla.
Later in the day, residents who were given temporary shelter at a function hall in Khammam staged a protest at Yellandu crossroads. They raised slogans against the Congress government and demanded restoration of their houses.
Police used force to disperse the protesters and clear the road after massive traffic congestion. The protest caused tension for some time in Khammam city.
