Khammam: Incessant rainfall in erstwhile Khammam district brought down the temperatures as the minimum and maximum recorded in the district ranged between 23.5 and 32 degrees Celsius for the past few days.

A minimum temperature of 23.5 was recorded at Gubbagurthy in Konijerla in Khammam district while Aswaraopet in Kothagudem district recorded 24.3 Celsius on Tuesday creating winter-like weather for the locals.

The minimum temperatures hovered from 24 to 26 Celsius in various mandals in both districts. A maximum temperature of 30.9 Celsius was recorded at Julurpad in Kothagudem while the maximum temperature recorded in Khammam was 32 degrees Celsius at Tallada.

Khammam district received an average rainfall of 30.5 mm with four mandals witnessing heavy rainfall while the others received light to rather heavy rainfall. Chintakani recorded a rainfall of 104 mm in the past twenty-four hours.

In Kothagudem the district average rainfall was 10.8 mm as fourteen mandals witnessed light to rather heavy rain in the past 24 hours. Due to the incessant rains coal production in Sathupalli, Yellandu and Kothagudem was affected due to waterlogging in SCCL open cast mines.

Meanwhile, irrigation projects in Kothagudem district have been receiving huge inflows following continuous rains in their catchment area. Officials lifted five gates of Taliperu project at Cherla to release 57018 cusecs of excess water on Tuesday.

Similarly, authorities have lifted two gates of Kinnerasani project at Paloncha to release 8000 cusecs of excess water on Monday night. The continuous rainfall has led to waterlogging in low-lying areas on main roads in several areas and disturbed vehicular traffic.

At Kothagudem, the railway under-bridge was inundated with rainwater which stood at knee-deep level for a long time causing inconvenience to the commuters. A few two-wheeler riders suffered injuries as they fell down after losing control of the vehicles.
