Khammam: Khammam youth G Venu Kumar, who attempted suicide on August 1 due to distress over the delay in the release of Group recruitment notifications, was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that Venu Kumar, a native of New Lakshmipuram village in Mudigonda mandal in Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka’s Madhira constituency, consumed rat poison and sleeping pills in an attempt to end his life. His condition improved after treatment at a private hospital in Khammam.
A three-page suicide note addressed to the State government, which he wanted to reach Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, created a stir among students and political circles, besides drawing severe criticism of the government.
Venu Kumar claimed that he resorted to the extreme step due to the delay in issuing the Group recruitment notification and the lack of a job calendar. The youth of Telangana elected the Congress government as the party had promised to issue a job calendar, but it had failed to do so.
He further stated that the present government had only filled jobs for which notifications were issued by the previous government but had failed to release a fresh job calendar.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao and other leaders described the youth’s note as a “charge sheet” against the Revanth Reddy government and urged it to fulfil the promises made to unemployed youth in the State.
Rama Rao also spoke to Venu Kumar over the phone on Tuesday when party leader A Rakesh Reddy visited him at the hospital and assured him of support.
Meanwhile, former MP Nageswara Rao spoke to the hospital management and got Venu Kumar’s discharge bill waived. The former MP also extended financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the youth’s family through the Nama Muthiah Memorial Trust.
