Mancherial: Traffic on the Mancherial-Jannaram route came to a grinding halt when family members of two persons electrocuted at a fuel station in March staged a protest demonstration alleging delay in compensation at Medaripet village in Dandepalli mandal on Tuesday.
Family members of Challa Laxminarayana (50) from Madhapur and Chandanagiri Nagaraj (35) of Velganur blocked traffic on the busy road, demanding justice. They said compensation had been assured by a cement trader from Medaripet who engaged the labourers to construct a house. They alleged that the trader was not paying the compensation even after two months.
The agitating families stated that they had lost their breadwinners in the mishap and wanted the police to ensure justice for them. They declared that they would intensify the stir against the trader if he did not fulfil his promise.
They regretted that the family members were struggling to make ends meet following the deaths of the two daily-wage earners. They withdrew the protest after police assured them of justice.
On March 9, Laxminarayana and Nagaraj were accidentally electrocuted when they touched a live wire while standing at a fuel filling station in Medaripet. They were carrying an iron stand which came into contact with a high-tension power transmission line at the time of the accident. Another person escaped unhurt in the mishap.
