Hyderabad: The State government has started gurukuls on a large scale to ensure higher education to students from all communities, said Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar on Tuesday.
He was speaking after distributing laptops and each cheque of Rs.50,000 to over 100 students, who secured seats for pursuing MBBS, BDS, IIT and NIT among other national educational institutions for the years 2018-19 and 2019-20 here.
The Minister said Telangana was the only State, which was imparting quality education with a special focus on English. This initiative would enable students to excel in their fields of interest.
He said as many as 5.40 lakh students from SC, ST, BC, Minorities and General categories were pursuing education in 981 schools. Students were getting nutritional food apart from uniforms and shoes on par with those studying in corporate schools.
The students from the gurukul institutions were excelling in the national-level competitive exams. In all, 240 students secured seats for pursuing MBBS, BDS, IIT, NIT and central universities.
