Hyderabad: Barely days after urging BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to attend the Assembly with assurances of dignity and respect, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy slipped back into rhetoric against the former.
He dedicated nearly half of his 50-minute speech to hurl choicest abuses, personal attacks and veiled threats against the Opposition leader.
Addressing a felicitation programme for newly elected sarpanches from Kodangal constituency in Kosgi on Wednesday, Revanth Reddy struck a sharp contrast between words of inclusion and threats of retribution.
While promising the sarpanches that he would not discriminate on political lines as elections concluded and calling for collective efforts to develop Telangana, he issued thinly veiled warnings of imprisonment for Chandrashekhar Rao, and BRS working president KT Rama Rao.
He claimed generosity in not arresting Chandrashekhar Rao and Rama Rao so far, even taking credit for the security provided to the former Chief Minister who is also the Leader of the Opposition. He alleged that Chandrashekhar Rao had turned his farmhouse into a self-imposed jail.
He also used highly derogatory language, including personal and abusive remarks, and made statements that critics said bordered on wishing death upon the former Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister challenged Chandrashekhar Rao for debate on issues such as Kaleshwaram project, Krishna and Godavari river water sharing, and phone tapping in the Assembly. He even declared that the political chapter of Chandrashekhar Rao and BRS were over, vowing to keep them out of power as long as he was in politics.
He also announced special development grants of Rs 5 lakh for minor gram panchayats and Rs 10 lakh for major gram panchayats, from the Chief Minister’s Special Fund.
