Kothagudem: Several shortcomings in the administration of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre at Ramavaram in the district headquarters came to light when the district Collector Jitesh V Patil inspected the hospital.
When the Collector visited the hospital on Friday to attend a medical seminar and to inspect an under construction critical care wing building, several persons attending to their family members at the hospital approached him with complaints over its poor functioning.
A man complained that the staff told him to get x-ray imaging of a patient done outside the hospital, while another person told the Collector he was told to get medical tests done somewhere else and another said the staff has not given tablets required by the patient.
After listening to the complaints, the Collector questioned the MCH Centre superintendent Dr. Radha Mohan whether the grievances poured out by the patient’s kin were true. Responding to which the superintendent said that the radiologist was available at the centre to do x-ray imaging.
Patil took Dr. Mohan task for failing to maintain enough stocks of medicines and for advising patient’s attendants to go to Diagnostic Hub on their own to get medical tests done. The Collector questioned the superintendent why he could not monitor the status of stocks, which was one of his duties. He further noted that it was the duty of the staff to collect patients’ samples and then send them for testing to the Diagnostic Hub.
Giving a stern warning to the superintendent that if the affairs at the MCH Centre do not fall in line within a week, the Collector said that serious action would be taken against everyone from top to bottom, who failed to discharge his or her duties properly.
He directed Dr. Mohan to issue a show-cause notice to the staff who told patients to procure tablets from outside. The Collector said he would lay focus on the centre and visit it regularly to streamline its functioning.
