Kothagudem: Officials told to complete Sitamma Sagar Project works by May

Chief Secretary (Irrigation) Dr Rajat Kumar held a review meeting on Sitamma Sagar project in Aswapuram mandal in Kothagudem on Saturday.
Kothagudem: Chief Secretary (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar has directed the officials to complete construction works of Sitamma Sagar Multipurpose Project by the end of May. He along with CMO Secretary Smita Sabharwal, Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar Reddy and L&T CEO Subramanyam inspected the construction work of the project at Ammagaripalli village of Aswapuram mandal in the district on Saturday.
They held a meeting to review the progress of the project. The acquisition of land for the construction of the project undertaken at a cost of Rs 3,480 crore has to be completed by the end of this month, they said. The project required 3121.14 acres of land in 63 villages in Aswapuram, Cherla and Dummugudem mandals. Around 2640.39 acres of land had been acquired so far and of that 2485.18 acres of land had been handed over to the Irrigation Department.
An amount of Rs.112.77 crore had been paid as compensation and another 740 acres of land was yet to be handed over for which Rs 59.20 crore had to be paid towards compensation to the land owners. Required infrastructure and sand for the project has been provided. The machinery and men required for the construction work should be made available to carry out the works on a war footing basis. 65 gates would be set up for the project to be built with a water storage capacity of 36.5 TMC. The project would irrigate around 6.45 lakh acres in Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad districts, Rajat Kumar said.
District Collector Anudeep Durishetty informed that 322 acres of compensatory afforestation (CA) land was to be handed over for the construction of the project while 222 acres had been acquired so far. The acquisition of the remaining 100 acres would be completed soon.
Khammam District Collector VP Gautham, ITDA PO P Gautham, Irrigation CE Srinivas Reddy, SEs Venkateswar Reddy, Srinivas Reddy and DGM of L&T Rajneesh Chauhan were present.
