KT Rama Rao says Centre was not extending support for handloom sector

The State Government has been appealing to sanction mega powerloom cluster since last few years but there was no response from Centre, he said while speaking to media persons here on Friday.

Sircilla: Handlooms Minister KT Rama Rao said despite repeated pleas from Telangana Government to extend support for development of handloom sector and welfare of weavers, there was no assurance from Central Government. 

The State Government has been appealing to sanction mega powerloom cluster since last few years but there was no response from Centre, he said while speaking to media persons here on Friday.

Similarly, assistance was sought for modernisation of powerlooms in the State but there was no assurance in this regard. Efforts will be intensified to press for all our demands in the coming days, he said.

“Telangana Government introduced several programmes for weavers welfare and has been seeking Central Government support in further development of the handloom sector since last 7.5 years. Yet, there is no clear announcement from Centre,” said Rama Rao.
He wanted the State BJP MPs and MLAs to extend their support to TRS Government in exerting pressure on the Centre for  development of handloom sector in the State.
