KTR accuses Congress of scams, demands inquiry into Singareni tender
BRS working president KT Rama Rao accused the Congress government of reducing its two-year rule to scams, citing the Singareni tender controversy as proof of manipulation. He alleged that contracts worth Rs 250 crore were awarded to firms linked to the Chief Minister’s family and demanded an independent judicial inquiry.
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao accused the Congress government of reducing its two-year rule to scams and ignoring the delivery of its promised schemes.
He said the Singareni scam had exposed the true character of the Congress and urged people in the coal belt to recognise this betrayal ahead of the municipal elections.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan after welcoming Adilabad ZP Vice-chairman Rajireddy and his supporters into the BRS on Wednesday, Rama Rao said the silence of Ministers on the issue was conspicuous and troubling.
He said instead of answering questions on the Singareni tender scam, the government was resorting to diversionary tactics, including summoning BRS leaders by reviving old cases, after BRS leaders raised concerns.
Rama Rao said the introduction of the ‘site visit certificate’ rule had distorted the tendering process in Singareni. While earlier contractors across the country could participate through e-tendering, he alleged that mandatory site visits and certification had paved the way for manipulation, effectively predetermining bidders. He claimed that the first major contract under this system, worth about Rs 250 crore, went to a firm linked to the Chief Minister’s brother-in-law.
Stating that the controversy surfaced due to infighting within the Congress over shares in the Naini coal block, he demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy take political responsibility and explain the government’s actions. He reiterated the BRS demand for an independent inquiry by a sitting judge.
Targeting the Congress leadership, the BRS working president said its leaders were more focused on carrying bags to Delhi to protect their positions than on governing Telangana. He questioned the Chief Minister’s frequent visits to the national capital and remarked that both Congress and BJP were Delhi-based parties with little concern for the State.
“One is a party that carries bags, the other carries footwear,” he remarked, accusing them of surviving by appeasing central leadership rather than serving people.
Drawing a contrast with the previous BRS regime, Rama Rao said the K Chandrashekhar Rao government strengthened the State’s economy through welfare and infrastructure initiatives, while the present government had failed to honour its promises, allowed fee reimbursement arrears to touch Rs 12,500 crore, and pushed colleges towards closure.
