KTR asks Telangana government to clarify stand on CCI Adilabad revival
BRS working president KT Rama Rao urged the Telangana government to clarify its stand on reviving the CCI plant at Adilabad, alleging delays by the State and calling for immediate proposals to the Centre to protect jobs and boost industrial growth.
Hyderabad: After convincing the Centre to revive the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant at Adilabad, BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday demanded that the Congress government clarify its stand on the issue. He said reviving the project was crucial for the livelihood of thousands of families and the district’s industrial future.
In an open letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Rama Rao stated that the Centre had indicated its willingness to revive the plant if the Telangana government invested Rs 250 crore as its share. He said this emerged during a recent meeting of a BRS delegation and representatives of the CCI Sadhana Samiti with Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy in New Delhi.
The Union Minister informed the delegation that the revival process was delayed because the State government had neither sent proposals nor indicated its willingness to extend incentives or support. He alleged that the Congress government had remained silent for over two-and-a-half years.
Recalling Revanth Reddy’s promises before the Assembly elections and after assuming office, the BRS working president accused the Chief Minister of abandoning his commitment to restart the factory. He also questioned why the State did not explore reviving the unit independently if it was unwilling to partner with the Centre.
Rama Rao said the previous BRS government had pursued the issue with the Centre, where it offered incentives to the project under TS-iPASS and proposed a Centre-State joint venture on a 49:51 or 51:49 basis. He said the government had also expressed its readiness to take over and operate the plant if the Centre transferred it to the State.
“The Congress government must clarify its official stand on reviving the CCI plant at Adilabad. It should confirm whether any proposal was sent to the Centre, including investing Rs 250 crore as the State’s share, extending TS-iPASS incentives, taking up a Centre-State joint venture or pursuing any other alternative plan if the Centre did not proceed,” he demanded.
The former Minister urged the government to act beyond politics, send the required proposals to the Centre without delay and extend full support for the revival of the factory. He also said the BRS and the CCI Sadhana Samiti were ready to meet Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu to submit a representation on the issue.
