Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Monday asserted that people across Telangana wanted K Chandrashekhar Rao to return as Chief Minister. He called for the mobilisation of 60 lakh BRS soldiers dedicated to the task. He termed this effort as the ultimate birthday gift to the BRS chief who fought for Telangana’s formation.

Addressing party workers at Chandrashekhar Rao’s 71st birthday celebrations at Telangana Bhavan here, Rama Rao lauded his father, stating that Chandrashekhar Rao was not a hero for just him, but for four crore Telangana people.

“He liberated Telangana from an exploitative regime, risking his life for the cause. He built the party from scratch, facing insults and difficulties, to achieve Telangana statehood,” he said.

Pointing out the State’s current crisis, the BRS working president said people from all walks of life were yearning for the BRS chief’s return.

“For 14 months, wherever I go, people say only one thing – Chandrashekhar Rao should become the Chief Minister again. This is not just a wish, but a mission,” he declared.

Former Minister T Harish Rao stated that the former Chief Minister was not just a leader but an emotion for people of Telangana.

“Many claim credit for Telangana, but the truth is simple – if Telangana exists today, it is because of Chandrashekhar Rao’s relentless struggle,” he said.

Harish Rao recounted Chandrashekhar Rao’s sacrifices, from resigning key positions to launching an indefinite fast that forced the Union government to make an announcement on Telangana State formation in 2009.

“He risked everything for Telangana’s cause. His leadership turned the newly-formed State into a national model in sectors like irrigation, drinking water, and electricity,” he added.

Taking a jibe at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Harish Rao charged him with playing cheap 20-20 matches for money, while reminding that Chandrashekhar Rao was a master at all formats – test, one-day and 20-20 matches in politics.

“He knows when to defend and when to hit sixes. This setback is just the beginning of three more victorious terms ahead for BRS,” he declared.

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, S Madhusudhanachari, condemned the Congress for its betrayal of Telangana. He pointed out that Chandrashekhar Rao took on the entire system when parties dismissed Telangana as a Naxalite dream. He stated that the BRS chief had not only realised Telangana, but proved its potential through visionary governance. Asserting that Chandrashekhar Rao was a doer, he said whatever and whenever he decides, he delivers. He said the former Chief Minister would soon announce his action plan.
