Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday alleged that the revival of the Formula-E case was part of diversionary politics by the Congress government and said the move was aimed at shifting public focus from key issues.
Terming the case as baseless and without substance, he said the timing of the charge sheet was intended to counter the BRS demand for legal backing to the “Six Guarantees” through a Private Member Bill, Rama Rao maintained during an informal chat with media persons here on Tuesday.
He claimed that even the government’s own charge sheet did not point to any wrongdoing. He alleged political vendetta and said officials were being harassed to target him. “The Rs.45 crore transferred from a Telangana bank remained secure in the designated account. No funds had been diverted,” Rama Rao said.
He accused the government of inflating figures to mislead the public. The amount was being projected as Rs.600 to Rs.700 crore to create confusion, but people would not believe such claims, he said.
The BRS working president questioned why no individual was named as a beneficiary in the charge sheet. He said the funds could be retrieved at any time since they were safe in the organisation’s account. Expressing confidence in the judiciary, he said justice would prevail.
Defending the Formula E race, Rama Rao said the event was held in Hyderabad to boost the city’s global image and attract investments in the electric vehicle sector. Citing Nielsen report, he stated that it generated around Rs.700 crore in economic activity within a week.
He also criticised the Congress government over what he called selective action and wasteful spending. He alleged that Rs.100 crore was spent on a football match for Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s interest and Rs.10 crore was misused from Singareni, but no cases were filed.
Referring to the Miss World event, Rama Rao questioned its benefits to Telangana. He said the State’s image suffered after allegations by Miss UK, and claimed no Congress leader had been booked despite the issue.
Rama Rao asserted that the BRS would continue to push for legal status to the Six Guarantees. He said the party would not be deterred by what he described as diversion tactics.
