KTR calls out Congress leadership over failures in Telangana governance

In a strongly worded letter to Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, Rama Rao criticized the Congress for its failure to fulfill its electoral promises. "The guarantees you made during the elections have proven to be nothing more than deceptive tricks. The so-called 420 promises are part of a larger scheme of deceit," he wrote. Pointing to the unfulfilled pledges in the manifesto, he highlighted the struggles of farmers, youth, and women who were left abandoned by the Congress government.

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a blistering attack on Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi and the Congress government in Telangana in a strongly worded letter, blaming them for dismantling the State’s progress, betraying its people and promoting a culture of corruption and incompetence. He said the Congress regime under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had turned a blind eye to Telangana’s pressing needs while fostering policies that harm every section of society.

In a missive to Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, Rama Rao lambasted the Congress for failing to deliver on its electoral promises.

“Your guarantees, touted during the elections, have turned out to be nothing but fraudulent tricks. The so called 420 promises have proven to be part of a grand cheating chapter,” he wrote. Citing the manifesto’s unfulfilled promises, he explained the plight of farmers, youth, and women, who were left betrayed by the Congress regime.

The BRS working president denounced the Congress government for partial implementation of the crop loan waiver, leaving farmers in lurch. He noted that while the government initially announced to have allocated Rs.49,500 crore, it had released only around Rs.20,000 crore till date. The delay in the crop loan waiver reportedly led to over 620 farmer suicides. He also criticised the delay in release of the Rythu Bandhu investment assistance and questioned the Congress’s failure to implement the promised Rythu Bharosa scheme with enhanced assistance.

On employment, the former Minister targeted Congress’s pledge to create two lakh government jobs, stating that only 12,527 positions were filled in the last one year, leaving 1.87 lakh posts vacant. He slammed the government for failing to disburse the promised interest-free loans to youth, terming their approach as “photo-ops without follow-up.”

Rama Rao attacked Congress for betraying women voters with hollow promises. He pointed out the failure to implement the Rs.2,500 monthly honourarium for women and criticised the mismanagement of welfare schemes like Kalyana Lakshmi, which provides financial aid for marriages. “Parents who have waited over last one year for assistance are now cursing the Congress regime,” he wrote.

The BRS working president also raised strong objections to the Congress government’s attempts to erase Telangana’s cultural heritage. He held Revanth Reddy responsible for raising curtains to toxic hate politics in the State, posing a threat to Telangana’s icons. He found fault with the installation of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s statue at a site originally designated for Telangana Thalli statue, opposite the Secretariat.

“Your toxic political culture aims to erase Telangana’s identity,” he said, stating that though the BRS had huge respect for former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, such attacks on Telangana’s culture would compel the party to act against their statues. He said whenever the BRS returned to power, the statues of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi as well as the recently installed altered statue of Telangana Thalli would be relocated to Gandhi Bhavan with all honours.

Rama Rao didn’t mince words on corruption charges, calling the Congress government synonymous with scams. He listed out numerous corrupt practices of the Chief Minister in awarding irrigation projects and the inflated costs of Musi River Rejuvenation project as examples to loot the State. “Your government’s scams will haunt Telangana for decades,” he wrote, urging Rahul Gandhi to apologise to the people of Telangana and refrain from attention-diversion tactics.

“Any attempts to loot the State, derail its progress and erase its culture, before pushing it into abyss once again will not be tolerated,” he added.
