KTR cites Infosys land sale row to question Congress land policy in Telangana
BRS leader KT Rama Rao accused the Telangana Congress government of selling prime public land worth Rs 5 lakh crore under asset monetisation, demanding that land allotted at concessional rates be reclaimed and used for public infrastructure
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday accused the Congress government in Telangana of indulging in a massive sale of prime public land. He said nearly 9,300 acres land, valued at close to Rs 5 lakh crore, was being put on the block under the guise of asset monetisation.
The BRS leader’s remarks came in response to a post by Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram on X, who criticised Infosys for selling 53.46 acres of land in Attibele, Bengaluru, to the Puravankara Group for Rs 250 crore. Karti argued that land allotted at concessional rates for a defined purpose cannot be sold later at commercial prices and that both the land and proceeds should revert to the government.
Congress Govt in Telangana is indulging in not just sale of one chunk of industrial land but 9,300 acres of land worth almost 5 Lakh crores !!
These prime lands were given by Govt at a concession for a specific purpose (employment generation)
Drawing a parallel, Rama Rao insisted that the same principle should apply in Telangana, where the Congress government was trying to sell off the prime land which was originally allotted at concessional rates for specific purposes such as industrial development and employment generation. “The government has no right to sell these lands to make money for its kith and kin,” he charged.
He demanding that such parcels be returned to the government and repurposed for public use. “We need land for social infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, housing for the poor, parks, bus stands and parking facilities,” he asserted, questioning how a Congress government could justify large-scale land sales while opposing similar transactions elsewhere.
