Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the Congress government’s decision to hike in the city bus fares steeply. He charged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy with looting the poor and middle-class through repeated hikes of bus fares.
Terming the move cruel and insensitive, Rama Rao said the Congress government had increased fares not once. He said with Rs 10 hike, the government was imposing an unbearable financial burden on daily commuters in Hyderabad. “At a time when prices of essential commodities are soaring, how will the poor survive if an additional Rs 500 a month is extracted from each commuter?” he asked the Chief Minister.
The BRS working president stated that the State government, which had already increased fares of student passes and T-24 tickets, had imposed a 50 per cent hike on the minimum fare without any concern for the commuters.
“The decision exposed this government’s incompetence and misplaced priorities. The Chief Minister seems determined to squeeze nearly Rs 1 crore a day from Hyderabad’s residents,” he said.
He said instead of coming to the rescue of TGSRTC, which is already in financial distress due to the free bus scheme, the government was recovering losses by penalising ordinary passengers. He called the fare hike unforgivable and anti-people.
